Reading the Heat
What the Gold Favorability Map is, and how to go from a warm blob to a spot worth standing on. Watch the minute of video, or read the same walk-through below it.

Pull up your ground, dots on
Headed somewhere? Pull up that ground first. Make sure the gold occurrences are on — every dot is a recorded gold occurrence. Orange dots are past or active producers that pulled metal; green dots are known showings. That's where gold has already been found.
Turn on the heat
In the layers panel, check Favorability heat. That glow is our Gold Favorability Model — machine learning trained on 300,000+ federal gold records and the geology of the West.
Read it
The brighter the ground, the more it looks like ground that has produced gold. The dots tell you where gold was found. The heat tells you where the ground looks right — around the dots, and beyond them. And cold ground is honestly cold: no glow is the model telling you something too.

Click any spot — not just a dot. The pop-up is the read of that exact ground: the model's verdict, whose land it is, the bedrock, the nearest recorded finds and claims — and the expert read, written for that spot while you wait. The creeks that drain your ground light up in blue.
